Artist Anita Glesta is not new to public art projects - she specializes in creating large-scale, international public art projects with particular focus on historical events. She created the site-specific Yurong Water Gardens project in downtown Sydney, Australia in 1994 and later created Pedazos, a response to 9/11, in the open-air courtyard at Black & White Gallery in Williamsburg.

Each month the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) hosts Art Salon, a monthly convergence of the creative community in the District. Tickets are officially on sale for the much-anticipated Seersucker Social! In the fall, we donned tweed. But this summer, we ride in seersucker through the Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens.

The Seersucker Social is scheduled for Saturday, June 12 and is offering the same delightful kind of unique and alternative experience by encouraging bicycle riding in style.

VJ Um Amel is a poet, activist and digital artist critically examining the nature of digital information and cyber existence in a post-9/11 world. On Thursday, February 25, Um Amel will present Call 2 Presence, an interactive live cinema performance at The Fridge DC art gallery.

In her 30-minute performance, VJ Um Amel (Arabic for ‘Mother of Hope’), an animated cyborg who is also a mother, invites the audience to collectively choose how the story will proceed.

Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986) is one of the most over-commodified yet most misunderstood artists of the modern era. Known as the painter of flowers and New Mexico landscapes, O’Keeffe was rarely allowed out of her feminine, representational, artistic box. The Phillips Collection’s Georgia O'Keeffe: Abstraction frees O’Keeffe from this confinement and reintroduces her as one of the pioneers of abstractionism in the early twentieth century – a title for which she is rarely acknowledged or showcased.
