Celebrating 90 years at The Phillips Collection with CakeLove's Warren Brown

When I heard that baker extraordinaire Warren Brown was going to bake a birthday cake for The Phillips Collection's 90th anniversary celebration, I thought about what an inspiration Warren has been to me and I am sure many others. He was making cupcakes in DC before cupcakes became trendy and he did it because he loved baking and not because he saw an opportunity to cash in on. He followed his dream despite having invested years and money into a legal career, and it worked out pretty good for him. And typical of someone who follows his passion, he says, "I didn't think it was a big deal, I just wanted to follow my heart." He dwas a huge influence on me as I considered chucking it all to live my passion and he continues to be a great example of creative entrepreneurship. Yay cake!

Warren and I had a really nice chat at CakeLove a couple days ago to talk about following your passion.  Sorry the video is sorta long but we just got carried away!

You can check out his cake creation at this weekend's open house at The Phillips Collection. Bakers from all over the city will make birthday cakes, which will be displayed over the weekend. You get to vote for the best one!

The museum has a yearlong calendar of 90th anniversary celebrating planned.  Check out what's happening HERE.

The Phillips Collection is located at 21st and Q and is open Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 11-6.
