Now in its 7th year, the DC Shorts Film Festival has been named by MovieMaker Magazine as “one of the nation’s leading short film festivals,” and was named “Best Festival” by Washington City Paper.
DC Shorts runs from September 9-16 in the Penn Quarter. During the week, 97 short films will be screened. Films come from around the country and around the world, though there is a special emphasis on DC filmmakers.
But movies are just the start. DC Shorts aims to encourage and strengthen independent filmmakers, according to founder Jon Gann. Filmmakers who are accepted into the festival are invited to attend and even provided housing, if needed. Following each screening, there's a Q&A with filmmakers so that audience members can ask questions about their movies. There are also several amazing parties (including a VIP bash in the must-be-seen Gibson Guitar Room) where you can mingle with directors and producers, as well as fellow film fans. And there are workshops by low-budget filmmakers where you can learn how to make your own cinematic dream.
So, fancy yourself the next Coppola? Or just like seeing movies?
Get your tickets to DC Shorts before they sell out. And it will sell out!
