JOIN ME THIS WEEK - (10/11) The Talented 3.0 presents Tiara Thomas and Andy Suzuki and The Method

As the blogosphere grows, so multiplies the incredible vastness of the modern independent sonic atmosphere. Furthermore, as the influence of record labels and traditional means of increasing an artist's opportunities to gain access to mainstream recognition wane, events like Tuesday night's DYDC sponsored The Talented at Gibson Guitar Lounge grow in importance. Featured at this month's event, Tiara Thomas and Andy Suzuki and the Method represent the conceptual aim of the event. Focusing on "disciplines usually overshadowed being pushed to the forefront," both acts are definite throwbacks artists whose iconic brilliance defined the sound of a generation.

Blending lovelorn desire with blunt honesty, Indianapolis, Indiana's Tiara Thomas is not just a student at Ball State University, but a graduate with honors from the Lauryn Hill school of singer-songwriters. Discovered by local heavyweight Wale and signed to his Board Administration label, Thomas blends the silent intensity of Joni Mitchell with a hip hop state of mind. As well, Thomas is currently preparing a mix of her own material (including Wale duet "The Cloud") and covers of a plethora of popular urban top 40 songs for a debut mixtape with a yet confirmed release. Bringing a unique mixture to the table clearly powerful enough to take her to the next level of success, an evening with Tiara Thomas blents plaintive rhythms with boom bap excellence.

New York City's Andy Suzuki and the Method bring fresh scrubbed faces and winsome smiles to the table only to unveil killer melodies that can bring a crowd to its knees. Known mainly for covers of heavy pop hitters like Kanye West's "All of the Lights," the quartet bridges the musical gaps between classical elegance, rock  grandeur and hip hop swagger in four people and one melody. Jacks of all trades, The Talented showcase hopefully provides the opportunity to join them on their journey as they master them all.
