Time to make the sausage

I trekked over to the new Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood yesterday to hang out with artist Patrick McDonough and watch him set up his temporary studio in the project space and get to work on an exhibition entitled "winter wurst/worst weiss". I'll be following his progress each week until the opening at the end of the month. You're invited to visit the gallery on Sundays to watch him make the proverbial sausage as he creates new artworks in the space.

In his recent works, Patrick has been concerned with the ideas of free time (play, sports, games, etc.), decoration, and domesticity and the way these things inform a person's identity. Turns out February is the perfect month to explore the impact that time has on these ideas because three major sporting events will fortuitously converge this month: the Superbowl (an annual occurence), the Winter Olympics (every four years) and the America's cup (every three years). Plus, February is the traditional time for making sausage!  Who knew.

All are invited to the temporary studio every Sunday in February from 11 AM to 5 PM. The studio is located at 3901 Rhode Island Avenue, Brentwood, Maryland.
