My art show at School 33 got reviewed by the Baltimore City Paper!

M. Angelo Arnold's "Not Today"

My show at School 33 in Baltimore called "Functionless Form, Functional Décor" was reviewed by the Baltimore City Paper today! The art is stunning and fun and unexpected and I am thrilled about how well it all works together as a show and I love the reviewers take on the show.

Although I look at a lot of art and have sat on several juries, I don't have a great deal of experience with straight-up curating so it was a really educational experience.  Originally, I was asked to jury one show at School 33 with two other jurors.  One of the jurors dropped out so they decided that the two remaining jurors, me and Gerald Ross who runs art exhibits at the Maryland Insitute College of Art, would each curate a show from the nearly 200 submissions School 33 received in the call for artists. It was a difficult process because there were so many excellent submissions. I had a lot of help from former School 33 director and fab artist Jason Hughes and current director and also fab artist René Trevino. My awesome intern Elizabeth Ward helped me write the exhibition statement.

The artists: M. Angelo Arnold, Shannon Donovan, Chiara Keeling, and Allison Reimus.

The space: School 33, 1427 Light Street.

The date: Runs through January 16, 2010.

p.s. Kinda funny that I just posted this rant about art reviews and now I am totally giddy that the show I curated got a review! I hope people go see this show and I hope people buy this art when they see it. These artists are great.  School 33 is great.  They deserve and need your support.
