Christopher K. Morgan, a dancer and choreographer with City Dance Ensemble, performed "Rice" for Salon Contra this week. "Rice" combines spoken word and dance to tell a very personal story about a young boy's search for identity. While washing the rice each night for the family meal, Christopher smears the white rice and water on his skin wondering what it would be like to have white skin, blond hair, and blue eyes. I loved the story because we can all relate to wanting something we don't have.  Curly hair when we have straight hair. Pale-skinned people who visit tanning booths.

Kate Mattingly, professor of dance at GWU, led a really insightful conversation with Christopher about his performance and Salon Contrarians enjoyed yummy nibbles provided by Eatonville.
