Tonight! The Strathmore Puts Its Face On For "SKIN"

Tonight! The opening of the Strathmore's newest exhibit, Skin, is going down tonight at the Strathmore Mansion from 7-9pm. Victoria Milko and I got a chance to check out the exhibit last week and chat with curator Harriet Lesser. The work covers a range of body modification art, including hair, makeup, henna art, and tattooing. The tattoo portion of the exhibit features various aspects of the timeless tradition of tattoo art - classical training, ancient Irezume practice, and Western traditional imagery.

My favorite part? Paul Roe's installation of two contrasting tattoo shops; one of a contemporary shop, and one replica of an old-school parlor with 19th/early 20th-century elements/tools. The opening will also include live henna art by Bhavna Naik, whose work is also featured in the show.
