It’s that time of year. DC’s biggest musical festival will go into full swing this weekend, October 5-7. Dave Mann and his dedicated team of volunteers have worked tirelessly to bring nearly 300 bands to the District for this year's Sweet Tea Pumpkin Pie Fest.
The festival will span 15 venues throughout the U Street corridor, Adams Morgan, and Shaw. Additionally, Comet Ping Pong and Casa Fiesta will be hosting bands as well. To see the full line up of venues, showcases, and bands click here. All the shows are free save those at Comet, Casa Fiesta, and The Velvet Lounge.
The bands span many genres of rock and roll and many of them are still under the radar. Others have been getting the opportunity to play the Kennedy Center’s Millenium Stage such as Young Rapids (DC), Conveyor (NYC), Yeveto (Baltimore) and Graph Rabbit (NYC). This year’s lineup features bands from as far away as Denmark as well as many local acts. One of the guiding forces of STPP is opening up the DC scene to out of town acts while increasing awareness for local acts.
STPP held three successful fundraisers over the summer to help fund this festival. They have also teamed up with Eventstir to help raise funds. STPP has many sponsors but they are still in need of financial support. You can contribute by selecting one of the three options that feature wrist bands to avoid lines at the venues, or an official STPP tee shirt. Click here to contribute.
With a festival as big as this they are always in need of volunteers. If you would like to help with the festival email, stppfest@gmail.com.
With all this free music being brought to the city just for you there is no reason no to go check something out.
