West Wing Writer Opens ScriptDC

ScriptDC

Allison Abner, a writer/producer with credits including The West Wing and Without a Trace, will open ScriptDC, the premiere conference for Mid-Atlantic writers and filmmakers.

Abner will speak on October 14, during the opening night reception for this weekend screenwriting conference. She'll be speaking with local writer Robert Girardi. He wrote the novel that inspired Joan of Arcadia and was a part of the writing team for Judging Amy. Abner and Girardi will show clips from their award-winning dramas and take your questions about the art of televison writing.

This unique opportunity to learn the secrets of Hollywood is just the start of ScriptDC, which runs from October 14-16. The weekend conference on screenwriting is ideal for aspiring writers and filmmakers, offering the opportunity to:

  • Attend workshops for all skill levels — from beginner to seasoned pro
  • Pitch your idea to industry professionals
  • Vote for the DC Shorts Screenplay Competition winner.
Courses are offered by a diverse range of experts, including Marilyn Horowitz, Gordy Hoffman and Laurie Scheer. During a busy weekend, you can learn how to outline a screenplay, write it and then pitch your story to industry professionals.

One unique element  of ScriptDC is the live screenplay reading which will take place on Saturday night of the festival. Five finalists will square off, with the winner receiving $2000 to turn their short script into a film. You get to decide who wins.

You don't have to hop on a plane to Hollywood to learn how to write a film or TV show. Just come to ScriptDC for one weekend in October.
