About This Event
In this lecture, Dr. María Elisa Velázquez will present the complex and heterogeneous experiences of women of African origin in colonial Mexico, and will show some of the ways in which they lived and faced slavery. Cases of divination, witchcraft, blasphemy and swearing will be analyzed as strategies used by these women to protect themselves and improve their life conditions.
