Smithsonian Folkways Recordings presents Quetzal and La Sardina de Naiguatá

About This Event
These two Smithsonian Folkways recording artists have just released new albums. Quetzal combines shades of East L.A.’s soundscape, traditional son jarocho of Veracruz, salsa, R&B, and more to express the political and social struggle for self-determination and self-representation. La Sardina de Naiguatá fuses traditional Venezuelan Carnival music with more diverse and progressive instrumentation in a way that has revolutionized and reinvigorated the parranda genre. Both groups will hold a FREE evening concert as part of the 2012 Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
