SUMMARY:Chris Forsyth\, Janel + Anthony (+ Violet)\, Barsky + Mullinax
LOCATION:CD Cellar\n2607 Wilson Boulevard\nArlington\, Virginia
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist Chris Forsyth's hypnotic compositions assimilate art rock texture with folk\, blues\, and experimental influences. Long active in the improv/experimental underground\, he's released a series of acclaimed solo and band-oriented records over the past few years\, including his 2009 private press LP Dreams (reissued in 2011 on Family Vineyard) and Early Astral\, a 2012 duo LP with Mountains' Koen Holtkamp on Blackest Rainbow\, that have earned favorable comparisons to Sandy Bull's raga take on Chuck Berry and the majestic guitar tapestries of Television and Popol Vuh. His 2011 Paranoid Cat LP (also on Family Vineyard) has been described as "the work of an emergent master" (Uncut) and "a rapturous transmutation of noise into light" (Wire).\n\nSupporting him on the bill will be some of DC's most favorite sonic manipulators: Janel Leppin\, Anthony Pirog\, Jeff Surak\, Jeff Barsky\, and Jason Mullinax.\n\nJANEL AND ANTHONY are a Washington DC based instrumental duo whose elegant experimental music has gained the attention of some of the world's most important improvisers and musicians\, and captivated live audiences (and NPR and BBC listeners) locally and abroad. For Where Is Home\, their second album and first release on Cuneiform\, the duo have created a lush\, orchestral work investigating the treacherous emotional terrain at the hyper-mobile heart of 21st century America.\n\nVIOLET\n\nFound objects\, microcassettes\, damaged cds\, prepared acoustic instruments\, and old record players outfitted with foil are the tools of choice.\n\nAnd finally\, both Jeff Barsky (Insect Factory\, Plums) and Jason Mullinax (Pilesar) have played the Cellar before. Of course\, we will keep the register open until the show ends and we will have new releases available from nearly all the performing musicians. (Chris Forsyth and Janel and Anthony both have brand new albums out and Insect Factory released a new record recently as well.)\n\nARLINGTON CD CELLAR\n\n2607 WILSON BLVD\n\nARLINGTON\, VA
