About This Event
ShawnMikael(s) descends on Columbia Heights NW DC for three nights in July and August: July 20th, 27th and then again on August 10, 2012 at the cool friendly confines of Studio 1469, a brand new space that we’re hoping becomes a permanent fixture for improv here in DC, and for us in particular.
The lineup for these shows is, in a word, stellar:
The first show, on July 20th, will be hosted by one of the DC standup scene’s most talented mainstays, Mariya Alexander. We’ll open the by asking a third to join us for the very first time: the talented and tall Taylor Williams-Durant, co-host of the ever-popular Charlie Visconage Show, will play in with us for some opening-act fun.
We’ll then turn the stage over to Gin & Ginger, whose high-energy “game-style” play has made them a DC improv scene favorite.
Finally, ShawnMikael(s) take the stage to close out the evening.
The following week, on July 27th, we’ll return with an all-new lineup, this time hosted by Sara Armour, who, in a very short period of time has made quite a splash in the DC standup scene.
Sara will be followed by two improv troupes, Telenovela, one of Washington Improv Theater's first Harold teams, and That Was Awkward, formed out of DC’s highly energized independent improv scene.
To close the show, ShawnMikael(s) will be joined by guest monologueist Colin Murchie, veteran of many Washington Improv Theater mainstage shows, who will not only help us get the show started, but also create atmosphere with his uncanny ability to "paint" scenes, the stuff of legend among DC improvisors. You'll have to see it to believe it...
Our third and final show of the run, on August 10th, (NOTE: there will be NO SHOW on August 3rd) will find local stand-up legend Doug Powell hosting, followed by the always hilarious improv enigma that is Aboulia. Finally, ShawnMikael(s) will close out this evening and this run of shows.
The Space: Studio 1469 (http://studio1469.com/), located in the rear of 1469 Harvard Street, is not your normal performance space: one part artist’s hideaway, one part “white-box” theater, it’s a hidden gem in bustling Columbia Heights. Please note that access to the space isn’t available on Harvard Street, but by entering via the alley off 15th Street between Harvard Street and Columbia Road. Once in the alley, walk straight to the end, where you'll find the space. More information. directions, and a map are available here: http://studio1469.com/directions.
BYOB: Keep in mind that Studio 1469 doesn't sell alcohol. However, you are welcome to bring your own alcoholic beverages to the the show (provided, of course, you are
of legal drinking age).
You'll need a ticket to get in, so be sure to purchase them in advance: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/261207
