VESTIBULE’s TAINT, Pt.1 is a mash-up of media and performance created by dancer/choreographer Jasmine Heiss and performance artist/actress Catalina Lavalle, with visual artists Joseph Hale, Joseph Orzal, Deshaundon Jeanes, and HKS181. The piece also features guest performers Melinda and Brandon Diachenko.

TAINT is the first in a four-part performance series inspired by Antonio Negri and Michael Hardt’s Neo-Marxist classic Empire. The artists have adopted the book as for guidelines to liberate their own approach to art and collaboration, in the hopes of transferring our experience to the audience. The piece is highly collaborative and will involve both 2-D and 3-D art, performance, and dance.

Using the very broad 'Indian' signifier, TAINT aims to explore the appropriation and defamation of symbols tied to the multifarious histories of cultural imperialism — specifically, we are investigating the complexities of our own participation within this hegemonic system of imposition, appropriation, and consumption.
_____
VESTIBULE is an ever-evolving collaboration with artists across various artistic disciplines to create; challenging and contributing to DC’s dynamic creative community in the process. Collaboration is our true medium, and as Vagabonds, we aim collectively to engage our audience and enhance their experiences while pushing the boundaries of our own individual respective mediums and challenging any perceived artistic limitations.

This exhibition is part of The Fridge's second annual FRESH PRODUCE series, a one-month, packed chance to access the breadth and depth of the DC arts scene.

→ [$5 entry for performance on Saturday]
→ [Opening reception with sneak preview of installed visual art on Friday, August 30, at 7pm; free admission]
