Projecto Correspondência is built upon the desire for collaboration between curators in different countries. The resulting exhibition of cultural and artistic exchange uses the postal services as a mean of transporting, and also expanding, art. Mail art emerges as a method to create something simple, unpretensious and most importantly, free from the institutional and economic boundaries of the art market. Through the exchange of artworks by post, mail art raises questions related to transportation and ‘the rules’ of borders and customs rights. At a time when the post is being replaced by electronic media, the goal remains to create ‘real’ cultural and artistic exchange throughout the world. In the present social and economic climate, mail art appears as a simple, sustainable answer to create artistic and curatorial collaboration between multiple countries. The first edition of Projecto Correspondênciatook place in Galeria Abraço in Lisbon (Portugal), the Rufino Tamayo Pre-Hispanic Art Museum in Oaxaca (Mexico) and afterwords in Galeria Neter (Mexico).
