DC street artist DECOY will be transforming The Fridge into a fully-fledged nail salon this November. For D’s Nails, the artist is using the commonplace environment as the backdrop for an exhibit focusing on the importance of change and transformation in our lives.

The walls will be filled with portraits of pivotal people and symbolic figures from DECOY's life. DECOY says, “Each piece I’m creating relates to a person who has transformed by making the choice for a major life change. This show is about deciding to make a change and going for it, no matter what that means. I bit my nails for 25 years, and I thought I would never be able to have funky or cool nails. One day I decided, I can do this. The confidence that came from this decision began to spread to other parts of my life.”

Visitors can visit The Fridge to get a set of DECOY's original artist-designed nails. During the opening reception, DECOY will offer free-style nail designs for free, first come, first serve. She will be accepting appointments for custom manicures on Saturdays 11/10, 11/17 and 11/24, 11 – 4pm. Clients will choose from 9 sets, including a Pink Line set inspired by Philippa Hughes and an all-DC set featuring the monument, flag and more.Appointments may be made online, manicures are $30.

The exhibit features an interactive art project in keeping with DECOY’s playful and relatable attitude toward the creation of her work. During the opening reception, visitors will be invited to create art on the exterior of the building using paint from over-sized nail polish bottles.

DECOY is also creating takeaways such as hoodies and zines that will be sold in the newly opened Mini-Fridge space located in a second room at The Fridge.
