Focus! On Video Art and Short Film

About This Event

FOCUS! delves into the disciplinary overlaps of video art and short film. The two-day series of screenings and discussions will examine the ways in which cinematographers and short film makers are increasingly distorting the boundaries between the two genres, incorporating art forms such as sculpture, architecture, digital art, and electronic music into their work.

Displays and panelists will explore the dismissal of conventional methods as artists in the two industries repeatedly choose to use languages, codes and methods that are rarely associated with the so called Seventh Art.

The discussion will include speakers Philippe Gajan, director of the “Lab” selection of the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (Montréal) and Ian Buckwalter, Film Columnist for Washingtonian Magazine and Film Critic for NPR and The Atlantic.

After the Saturday night screenings, French DJ collective Green Monkeys will take over the pop art space with their warm and progressive tracks. Opening from Washington DJ Yacine Allaoua of Indecent Exposure
