About This Event

BIKKURIBAKO is an untranslatable Japanese concept which essentially means “lovely surprise box.” The impromptu gallery is an experiment in the synergies possible between the business and art communities, and an attempt to bring a surprising burst of art into the relatively flat and colorless Downtown lunch experience. Of the project, Mr Okochi said, “As an artist myself, I want to support artisans here the best way I can which is by giving them a platform to shine, in the center of the city during prime business hours. My sincere hope is that all their work will sell and more businesses will take time to explore partnerships like these.”

Curated by local curator / manager / philanthropist Lisa Markuson, the installation will feature the work of a developing cast of DC-based artists using multiple mediums. Ms Markuson curates events and shows with the aspiration of creating an interactive environment that can become portal into another time, place, or sensual experience. All art displayed will be available for purchase on and off-site. The art and artists included at the outset are:
