About This Event
On View January 5 – January 27, 2013
Davis McLane Connelly’s newest drawings of youthful figures in lifelike, yet surrealistic scenarios will be on view this January at The Fridge. In a departure from previous works shown in this series, in Individuation Connelly employs both human and animal form in his pursuit to realize this dream-like exploration of the metaphorically composed psyche concept.
Davis is a self-taught artist whose skills as a draftsman earned him a post-graduate residency in Corciano, Italy. While his academic training in the field of psychology is the most notable influence in his work, Davis is also a noted scholar in unexpected arenas such as archetypes in mythology and horror cinema, such as Joseph Campbell’s stages of monomyth and Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining. This series is born out of the concept of individuation, the Jungian term for each person’s path to becoming whole.
