About This Event
Come, experience the poetry, song, movement, and visual spectacle of Monument, a performance ritual by Holly Bass that honors the strength and diversity of women across the African diaspora. Begin on the museum’s lower level and spiral upward through the space over the course of an hour with Bass and collaborator Chanon Jordan to a final tableau in the museum’s gardens (weather permitting).
Commissioned to commemorate international Womena’s Day, the site-specific production reflects the IWD 2013 theme, “Gaining Momentum,” in both content and form. Monument also addresses ecological themes, such as access to and uses of water and land.
