About This Event
Young Artist Paints Across Cultural Diversity in South Silver Spring
There's a new artist on the block at 7910 Georgia Avenue, wedged between Freddy's Barber Shop and Fonda Paisa Latin American Bakery and Grocery Store. Ariel J. Klein, a 23-year old 2012 graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and the University of Madrid, has been embraced by neighbors in this urban hub in South Silver Spring. Klein's first solo show - with works from Madrid, Baltimore and Silver Spring - will open on July 27th in the storefront he has dubbed "The Purple Coconut Gallery." The exhibit runs through August 18.
GALA Hispanic Theatre Director, Rebecca Medrano says Klein’s work, “evokes powerful human emotion.” Barry Nemett, Painting Department Chair, MICA, adds, “Gestural, inventive, and bold – these are words that come to mind when thinking of the work of Ariel Klein.” Basque regional painter Xabier Egana says Klein's work has evolved "a lineal synthesis with his figures, often barely sketched in strokes and dissections. His color, whether exploding from the background or receding, combines exquisitely with his figures"
