More about some of the performers:
Natalie E. Illum is a poet and federal employee. Her work is included in "Word Warriors: 35 Women of the Spoken Word Revolution," among others. Once upon a time she hated poetry slams, now she competes in them. Storytelling scares her, but so do safety nets. She trusts acrobats, Jack Daniels and Joni Mitchell.
Comedian Vijai Nathn's one woman show, Give Them Vagina: Tips from Mom, Dad & COSMO, is a devastatingly funny takedown of her life as a single lady out on the dating scene. Though Nathan grew up in a very traditional and formal Hindu household, her brand of comedy knows no cultural boundaries and takes no prisoners. Imagine Sex and the City mixed with My Life on the D List and a Chris Rock monologue, and you’re somewhere in the ballpark. Learn more about her at http://www.vijaicomedy.com/
Jennifer Tress is a writer and storyteller based in the metro-DC area. Her pop-culture commentary has recently appeared in Bitch Magazine, and in October 2010 she produced her own one-woman show in Washington, performing pieces from her upcoming memoir: You're Not Pretty Enough. Her first chapter, "Sex Education," will appear in the upcoming Pinchback Press anthology Tarnished: True Tales of Innocence Lost (Summer 2011). SM Shrake has been on the radio program "This American Life" twice, and onstage with The Moth in Detroit and NYC, Mortified (DC and NYC), The Stoop Storytelling (Baltimore), SpeakeasyDC, and First Person Arts (Philadelphia). Read more at www.YouWannaKnowWhat.com.
